About Us

Established in 1985 Brimble, Lea & Partners is a multi-disciplinary practice based in Gillingham, North Dorset. Providing comprehensive planning consultancy, architectural and professional services to a wide range of clients, the Practice not only works in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire but also throughout the south-west and nationally.

Our client base includes large companies, house builders, rural estates, private individuals and the public sector to whom we provide a diverse range of planning services and architectural commissions.

The practice combines its broad range of services with an open-minded and flexible approach. Every project receives a high level of professional input and, as a single office with a close working relationship between disciplines, we are able to provide a consistent, thorough and reliable service.

The Team

John Lea B. Arch (Hons) R.I.B.A, Architect

John qualified as an architect in 1979, since when he has been continuously engaged as an architect in private practice. John has considerable experience in the design and construction of modern and traditional buildings as well as listed buildings, conversions and refurbishments.

Mrs Janet Montgomery BSc(Hons), MRICS, MRTPI, Chartered Surveyor and Planning Consultant

Janet joined the Practice as a Chartered Surveyor and Planning Consultant in 1990 having previously worked with a London firm of Chartered Surveyors. She works for a wide range of clients both in the private and public sector. Providing both planning and general practice surveying advice she has an extensive knowledge of a wide range of professional services. Recent successes have included obtaining planning approval for a variety of residential, equestrian and agricultural proposals. Janet also specialises in gaining planning approval for travelling showpeople's sites and has worked extensively with Greenbelt cases.

Diccon Carpendale MA, Dip (Arch Cons), MRTPI, IHBC, Planning Consultant

Diccon joined the Practice in December 2003 and became a Partner in 2008. Prior to 2003 Diccon spent nearly 15 years working in the public sector where he gained planning, conservation and regeneration expertise. Diccon is a Chartered Town Planner and a Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. Recent projects have included an equestrian stud on a Greenfield site, change of use of farm buildings to an equestrian training and breeding enterprise with associated accommodation, barn conversions and numerous residential development schemes including the renovation and conversion of a large listed building into six units of residential accommodation.

Tony Brimble, Planning Consultant

Tony is a founder member of the Practice, having previously been a Director of John Jeffery & Son. Before joining that firm he was employed with various Local Authorities and was Deputy Area Planning Officer for North Dorset for 6 years. Tony represents a wide range of clients and has recently been involved in securing planning approval for a large scale residential development on the eastern edge of Shaftesbury, following a Call-In Inquiry.

The support team consists of architectural technicians and surveyors with full secretarial and administrative back up.
